ABOUT ME...

I'm studying Industrial Design in the 7th semester at Coburg University of applied sciences and arts.

After my Qualifaction as Electrical Engineer Technician i felt, that this job alone didn't satisfied me at all. I don't wanted to take action in a small horizon, where i can't change much. I wanted to design the whole thing.

I'm a very ecological awared person, a critical consument and vegetarian since many years. These are the values, i want to include in my work as a designer.

For me, good design is clearness, beauty and functionality. It's for mankind, animals and the environment. It respects and protects all of them.

DESIGN. ME. WHY?

Mankind stands in front of the greatest change in history: digitalisation, networking, artifical intelligence, the 4th industrial revolution and interplanetary space travelling collide with climate change, ecological disasters, escapes from war and poverty, social crisis, fake news, populism, shortage of ressources and environmental pollution.

We are somewhere between utopia and dystopia and in the next 30-40 years we will see, which way we will go. It's the opinion of many people, that politicians are not able to estimate the situation and therefore not able to make the right decisions for the future. But the future can be designed! It's the responsibility of designers to find solutions, so i think.

Curious i follow topics like the unconditional basic income, common welfare economy, cradle to cradle and the maker movement. With more and more people, i share the idea that we can be a so much more awesome society, without war, without hunger, without inequity and all this in harmony with nature.

But this will always stay a dream without people that change the world - whatever the scope is they get active. As a designer, i got the chance to use my skills to make my contribution to this.

WORKING FOR AFROSKOP

Afroskop e.V. is a young organisation, founded by ethnology student Lena Haber after her field research. There is an close cooperation with our partner organisation "New Paradigm", located in Gita Village (Kisumu District, Kenya) and supporting widows and orphans of the village.

Both organisations work with the principle of empowerment: The women get encouraged and supported to get themself and their children a dignified life. All the ideas to do so are generated by the women themselves, Afroskop supports them with fundings. It's the local engagement and knowledge, that develop cooperative, effective and purposeful projects, implemented by motivated people.

I become part of this initiative in the year 2012 through a friend of mine who was one of the founding members. I was fascinated from the engagement of the women in Gita and also from the friendly teamwork inside the organisation. It also was a good way to apply my competency in something really sensible.

Since then, i'm responsible for for the design and administration of the website (www.afroskop.de), the layout of the print works and artisan/technical issues. I also support public relations and other events of the organisation. In 2018, there was my second project visit to Kenya together with the Afroskop team.
