Visions of the past about the future...

Steampunk is a subculture, concerning with the imagination of the future during industrialisation of the 19th century. Machines and devices using steam instad of electricity as primary energy source.

It's very affected from the creations of Jules Verne and his storys about adventure trips using futurisitc submarines and airships. Modern movies like "Wild Wild West", "Van Helsing" or "Sucker Punch" are also affected from this.

Steampunk is Science-Fiction - but from another era about a future, that has developed into something completely different just because the rise of a new technology. Maybe it's the same with SciFi and visions nowadays?
